day 5 on planet hoppy

Feeling well enough to think about picking up my knitting needles today; have also learned an extraordinary amount about termites from an SBS documentary so I will be well prepared if ever stuck in the desert without antibacterial agents. I also learned how to pronounce chitin (the stuff insect exoskeletons are made of), which pleased me. Hey, it's my life.
I have been watching the live feed from Ironman Coeur d'Alene. I am utterly enamoured of that stuff. I get all teary when people run across the line with their kids or their parents. People who have had the guts to dream big and go after it - they put goosebumps on my arms. I want to be like them.
Speaking of which, pop over to Iron Benny's and Wil's blogs RIGHT NOW and congratulate them on their races this weekend.

For the first three days I was home from hospital I read back-to-back recovery-from-medical-disaster memoirs; suddenly I went utterly off that genre and have gingerly picked up Slow Fat Triathlete. That and some crappy detective stories should do the trick. A little bit of inspiration and some mind candy. I think it'll be a while before I feel like this, or this. Plenty of time.
What do you read to inspire you?

Hmmmm - I can see that you will be entertaining us with stories about the life cycle of the dung beetle.

Let's see. Books that inspire me. I like the motivational, well being, Tony Robbins style books. But for good old fashioned entertainment you can't beat fantasy. Sigh - I can easily lose myself to stories about knights and wizards and dragons. I don't have the luxury of much reading time these days however. Another thing for you to enjoy about this enforced rest!!!

So how long are you off your feet/unable to work/(most importantly) unable to wash dishes for?

Drag it out as LOOOOOOONG as you can - it's not often we get to get looked after as adults, hey?

Hope you're healing nicely and back to better than ever in no time.

xx

oh yeah, this kind of stuff is what gets you ahead on the knitting or other work. take it from me, have a bowl for the needles, because you won't be able to get up and look for those tapestry needles that you drop between your legs.

You sound chipper! Enjoy the great excuse to pick up the knitting needles and watch documentaries. Just think, you could have gone your whole life without knowing how to pronounce chitin had it not been for this surgery. The horrors!!

Stay on the mend!

I read a book of stories from first timers doing an Ironman. It was so cool. I find all the motivation I need amongst my blogger friends...

I read anything I can get my hands on, but funny enough Slow Fat Triathlete is one I return to when I need a boost. It's a lovely, funny book written by a lovely, funny woman who goes out of her way to correspond with her readers.

This is soooo freaky, I just handed Runner's World's book about running back to my library yesterday, not sure if it's the same issue as yours but the name is all the same, great book, I loved the colour and shortness of every issue, not boring pages full of info.
I have read Lance Armstrong's book not to long ago, another post I have never done but meant too.

Yeah - don't be in any hurry towards independence. This may be the last chance you have to be pampered and fussed over in quite a while. I've found that the more events I do the more my family mistakenly thinks that I can do it all on my own now.
