So tired. So happy.
Here's the quick post I put on coolrunning.
THE GOOD - a perfect day out despite the heat, and my first sub-6 (actually I think it's more AWESOME than good but of course I would think that)
THE BAD - shooed off Beach Rd an hour before the off-road cutoff so they could clean up, no water at all for the last 8km, no marshalls for the last bits of the off-road course, which was different from the map we were given. As I said to the woman at the organisers office, if they don't want to look after the slow runners they should make it a six-hour cutoff and be done with it.
THE UGLY - NO MEDALS FOR MARATHONERS WHO TOOK LONGER THAN 5.20. Apparently they'll post them to us. WRONG WRONG WRONG.
THE MAGNIFICENT - Grizzlybear giving me his medal when he saw how upset I was. What a wonderful, kind person. I will always be grateful for that lovely gesture and will absolutely send you mine when it arrives so you can celebrate your 3.35!. Mrs Wombat's gutsy last-minute finish with an injured hand was also magnificent, well done darl ((hugs))
I've started my race report but it'll take a while I think. It was A Big Day.
Here are some photos.

A Big Day Out
A message from Noddie.
SUB-6!!! Chip time 5.55.35!!!
The best support crew a Very Slow Marathoner could ask for.
Mrs Wombat - one of the best friends a Stupidly Determined Marathoner could ask for.
The bling. As I said above, I am more grateful for this than I can express.
More anon, funny walkers!

wha? ran out of medals?! no water at the end? no course marshals for the final bit?! that's just not right.

Frankie
EXCELLENT!! GOOD ON YOU!! I am SO happy for you. What a tremendous accomplishment.
Now, those race organizers need a quick kick to the butt!
Sub-6 IS AWESOME! And kudos to you for navigating the uncharted territories. :)
I can't believe they didn't give you a medal when you finished! What were they thinking?! Kudos to Grizzlybear. :)
Going to put a few strong words regarding that in my email to the organisers. It was going to be mostly about the small-city-sized field for the HM and the elbowing small people got as a result, but this takes the cake. Don't know who the dude with the microphone was but I was quite disgusted with how his language/attitude changed when he finished the awards presentations and the slower runners started coming in.
However: you have ran 3 marathons within a year! Congratulations on this splendidly awesome achievement. :D
Bring on that report! :-)
That's terrible. Don't they know the slow runners need the water MORE than fast runners. We are out in the sun for longer.
As for going under 6 - fan-freaken-tastic!~ You 1; nasty sinuses 0!
So ... are you up for a recovery run at Apollo Bay on Saturday ... ????
Well done on the sub 6 ...
So - what's next ???
(No basking to long in the light - you have to move on !!! )
Take care
